BURIANO E VETULONIA

A pochi chilometri da Castiglione della Pescaia, in una delle zone archeologiche e paesaggistiche più belle d'Italia, si trovano i due antichi borghi di Buriano e Vetulonia. Sono terre fuori dal tempo, che vivono ancora di riti e tradizioni secolari. Per le strade di Vetulonia, i giovani, non giocano a calcio ma a "palla eh!", un gioco millenario simile alla pelota mentre a Buriano, le poche decine di abitanti, vivono tutte in edifici che esistono da almeno 500 anni. Come spesso accade, un po' in tutta la Toscana, tutte le città e i paesi hanno una località vicina rivale o nemica. Per Vetulonia, questa nemica, è Buriano. Intorno al XV secolo si racconta che, dal campanile della chiesa di Vetulonia, si staccò una campana che rotolo' nella valle che separa i due borghi. Gli abitanti di Buriano si appropriarono del "tesoro rivale" portandolo alla loro chiesa e da allora, le due frazioni, sono in perenne lite. Pensate che, ancora oggi al momento dei rintocchi, le campane udibili in tutta la vallata suonano con qualche minuto di differenza tra loro. Per dispetto.

Just a few kilometers far from Castiglione della Pescaia (Tuscany), in one of the most beautiful archaeological and landscape areas of Italy, are located the two ancient villages of Buriano and Vetulonia. Those are lands out of time, still living with their rites and secular traditions. The inhabitants of Buriano stole the "rival treasure" bringing it to their church and since then, the two fractions, are in perpetual quarrel.
